Elvis' 1956 RCA recording of "Hound Dog" is our ASotD for Tuesday.
Though the title may conjure images of Presley singing to an actual hound on the Steve Allen Show—one of the biggest gaffes Elvis ever made—this song actually rocks harder than anything he did.
DJ Fontana's drum barrage paved the way for harder rock playing, and Scotty Moore's guitar just snarls, both on the small fills between vocal lines and the solo.
But Elvis' vocal is of course what makes it. He's still having fun, just toying with us, and we love it.
Good post. I like to read your posts. well written. thank you.
