Here via NRO. Look, I know Martina's been de-countrifying, which is sad, but she can carry anything off with that voice. And Sara Evans rocks, too. What was she singing that was so bad? (No cable, no antenna, no satellite. We're a Netflix house). I agree whole heartedly about that vile Garth Brooks, though. Blech!
Great review-- agree with the music segments. First time I've watched in 3 or 4 years. All in all, very similar to past CMA Awards nights: some hits, some misses. Most of the outfits were hideous (Kix Brooks in brown), too many of the young girls looked EXACTLY alike, even down to too many blue jeans, and what were they thinking in rehearsals when they had Sir Elton and Lady Dolly in the climactic pre-EOY segment? There hasn't been a bomb that big since Nagasaki. Years ago, I used to gather with Nashville insiders and watch this award show, slinging verbal bombs and bon mots when appropriate-- some of the funniest nights I remember. There was plenty of material once again this year. Biggest positives: the country artists thanking the "little people:" their road crews, etc., and appealing to NYC to hear some country radio. Biggest disappointments: no award for Brad Paisley and only a mention of Jerry Douglas' award- he & Alison Krause in the same band just isn't fair to the rest of the music industry!
Vapid and unwatchable. Boycot the big three.
Check out Boot Liquor radio on itunes for some quality varity country clasics and originals.
