Springsteen's Devils & Dust

My review of Bruce's latest is now up at NRO here.

I admit my initial strong negative reaction to my first listen to the disc, as posted in this space earlier, was half wrong.

I never wrote a full review of the new album on my blog, but overall I like it. I did a short post here - http://irisheagle.blogspot.com/2005/05/devils-dust.html . It's not great, which The Rising is, but it's not bad either. It's less monotonous than Ghost of Tom Joad, but doesn't have any song as good as Youngstown (a great song).

I saw the show when he was here too. He definitely puts the effort in. It was a very good night, although I wish he'd ditch some of the political stuff when he's outside the US.

You might find this review - http://www.counterpunch.org/browne04232005.html - of Devils & Dust interesting. It's written by Harry Browne, who's an American living in Ireland (as I am). Browne is from NJ and politically comes from way left (by US standards, anyway).

Here's my post on Browne's review. http://irisheagle.blogspot.com/2005/05/counterpunch-review.html
